The
Last King
An ageing actor returns to the theatre that once defined him for one final performance—only to face the silence waiting beyond the applause.
LAAIMPA Winner · Bochnia Special Mention · 2026
The film / 01
A final performance in an empty theatre
Arthur Vale, an elderly actor, returns to the dressing room and stage where he once played a king. Surrounded by old costumes, fading photographs and the machinery of memory, he prepares for an audience that may no longer exist. The film is an intimate reflection on mortality, performance and the last time a person’s name is spoken.
Production / 02
Generated frame by frame, directed as a complete film
The production was designed around continuity rather than isolated spectacle. Performance, blocking, costume, props, lenses and light were controlled across the theatre, dressing room and stage, then shaped through conventional editing, colour and sound to preserve a restrained dramatic rhythm.
